Cengiz Türkay was born in
Elazığ, Turkey, on August 21, 1964. He completed his primary, intermediate and
high-school education in Adana. In 1988, he was graduated from Çukurova Medical
School, earning his Md degree. After completing his compulsory medical service
in the Fethiye Social Security Hospital, he worked as a research assistant in
the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Akdeniz University Medical School.
After being awarded the title of specialist in the field of cardiovascular surgery, he served as a lecturer (between 1995 and 1999) and as an assistant professor (between 1999 and 2003) in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Akdeniz University Medical School. He earned the title of associate professor in 2003 and served as the chief medical officer in Akdeniz University Medical School between 2005 and 2008. In 2009, Türkay earned the title of professor.
Prof. Dr. Cengiz Türkay has conducted many studies on coronary artery surgery (bypass operation) heart transplantation, intracoronary stem cell injection and laser therapy of varicose veins. Thanks to his works, he was awarded with the first prize of scientific and laboratory studies on the 25th anniversary of the foundation of Akdeniz University Medical School. Additionally, on account of his studies on the treatment of varicose veins and stem cells, he took charge in numerous scientific gatherings and conventions. He has experienced 50 heart transplantations, 25 long term and 5 short term asist device implantations, stemcell implantation for heart or Buerger disease, coronary artery surgery, about 1000 endovenous laser ablations.
Prof. Dr. Cengiz Türkay still serves in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Akdeniz University Medical School and lectures on vein diseases, heart valve diseases, aortic aneurysms and surgical treatment functional diseases of vessels and pericardium diseases.
